Laser Cut- acrylic

18.04.16

I chose to laser cut some models from acrylic rather than MDF. This was something I wanted to do as the transparency helps to emphasise the depth of my designs. I was first motivated to experiment with acrylic when using the 'ghosted' viewport in Rhino. The first model I did was a remake of an earlier design that I knew would be effective if made from a transparent material and the second is a model that I had created in 123D make. Both came out great and I was happy with the results however the 3mm acrylic was slightly thicker than the 3mm MDF which caused some minor tolerance issues during assembly.
