I used the laser cutter to create some of my 3-D designs from 3mm MDF. The shapes I designed join in different ways to determine which joining techniques are more effective and how tolerances affect the joins.
I found the process useful to find out how flat shapes interact when trying to form a 3-D shape and it helped me to better visualise how the object will come together when designing it on illustrator. Two of my designs were quite successful despite tolerances causing minor issues, whereas the pyramid shape didn't come together as planned which was a learning curve for me. For my next experiments I want to use different material and thicknesses and design on a larger scale.
